The Salt Spring Film Festival Society is extending its 25th‑anniversary season with two “Best of the Fests” screenings at ArtSpring on January 21, 2026, and February 11, 2026.
On January 21, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., the society will present the Canadian documentary Everest Dark. Directed by Canadian filmmaker Jereme Watt, the film reframes Mount Everest through Sherpa perspectives, following their mission to retrieve and repatriate the bodies of climbers left on the peak, which Sherpas worship as Chomolungma.
Salt Spring Search & Rescue (SS SAR) is co‑presenting the Everest Dark screening, highlighting the film’s themes of high‑altitude rescue, recovery and mountain safety. These mid‑winter events keep the community engaged until the main festival, traditionally held in late February/early March, returns.
A second “Best of the Fests” screening is scheduled for February 11, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at ArtSpring, with the title and any guest or Q&A plans to be announced soon. Tickets are typically priced between $15 and $20 and are available through the ArtSpring Box Office (https://artspring.ca/).
