The Badgers come into the game with a 9–27 record, placing them 14th in the 17-team league, while the Plainsmen boast 23 wins and hold a top-eight playoff position, according to WHSHL standings. Sandy Bay has a reputation for using home-ice support to challenge stronger opponents.
