The Sandy Bay Badgers have named Kendrick Spence as head coach of the team’s Junior Varsity (JV) division in Sandy Bay, Manitoba. The appointments are for the 2025–26 season as the high school hockey program expands to create a dedicated developmental track for younger players.
Cody Marcoux will join the staff as the team manager, responsible for logistics and scheduling for the new squad. According to the Westman High School Hockey League, the Badgers operate as a co-op between several local schools, including Isaac Beaulieu Memorial School, William Morton Collegiate and Ebb & Flow School.
This expansion follows a period of strong performance for the program. CKDM reported that the Badgers reached the top of the Westman league standings in the 2024–25 season. By adding a JV level, the program can offer more roster spots to students in grades 9 and 10 who want to play competitive high school hockey.
The new coaching staff will be responsible for planning travel and practices at local rinks such as the Sandy Bay Community Complex and the Gladstone Arena. PortageOnline reported in 2019 that the Badgers were in their third year and had started that season very strongly; the current JV appointments are intended to support continued community interest and the program’s recent competitive success.
