Chief Trevor Prince of Sandy Bay First Nation visited students at Isaac Beaulieu Memorial School on February 12, 2026, to promote reading as part of a month-long literacy campaign in Sandy Bay, Manitoba.
The Chief sat with elementary students to read books as part of the “I Love to Read” challenge. This visit is intended to show children that community leaders value education and to help students feel more excited about learning in the classroom.
During the event, Chief Prince publicly encouraged other chiefs across Manitoba to take part in similar activities throughout the month. He noted that it is important for students to see their leaders in the classroom rather than just at official council meetings.
The Isaac Beaulieu Memorial School provides classes from nursery through Grade 12 and has been under local community control since 1976. Named after a former leader, the school serves as a central hub for the more than 7,500 members of the nation.
Literacy efforts at the school are supported by the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre. This organization helps provide the school with books and educational tools that focus on the specific needs of students in the community.
