Residents of Sandy Bay, Manitoba, will experience a brief break from the cold this Friday before snow and freezing temperatures return to the region next week. According to Environment Canada, the temperature is expected to reach a high of plus 3 degrees on February 13, 2026. This is about 10 degrees warmer than the usual daytime high of minus 7 degrees.
The warm weather is expected to cause melting and slushy conditions along local roads and Highway 50. However, a cooling trend will begin on February 16, 2026, as temperatures drop back down to a high of minus 6 degrees. This shift will likely cause wet surfaces to freeze, creating icy patches for the community.
Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation will see snow starting Tuesday night and continuing into Wednesday. Temperatures are forecast to fall significantly, with an overnight low of minus 17 degrees expected by Wednesday night.
These changing conditions may make travel difficult for the more than 2,500 people living in the community. Residents are encouraged to prepare for snow clearing and to stay alert for slippery roads as the thaw turns back into a deep freeze.
