The Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) is hosting two healing circles for First Nations veterans from the Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation in Manitoba on February 25 and February 26, 2026. These sessions are designed to give veterans a safe, culturally grounded place to share their stories and receive mental-health support that respects Indigenous traditions.

Knowledge Keeper Allen Sutherland will lead the events, which include traditional ceremonies, storytelling and a communal meal. The February 25 session is for men who have served in the military, while the February 26 session is specifically for women veterans.

Many veterans living in Sandy Bay and other rural areas often find it difficult to access specialized support services close to home. The SCO’s healing circles aim to help participants address the challenges of returning to civilian life and the long-term effects of military service through peer connection and traditional supports.

Veterans interested in attending should register with the Southern Chiefs’ Organization’s First Nations Veterans Program to reserve their spot and to confirm whether travel subsidies or mileage reimbursement are available. Contact the program at veterans@scoinc.mb.ca or 204-946-1869 (toll-free 1-866-876-9701). Note: the event venue should be confirmed with SCO when registering; registration may require verification of veteran status.
