Residents in Sarnia, Ontario, faced dangerous driving conditions on Sunday, February 15, 2026, after thick fog moved through the region. Environment Canada issued a weather alert for the city, Petrolia, and western Lambton County because visibility dropped to almost zero in some areas.
The weather agency used a yellow alert to warn people about the dense fog. According to the Government of Canada, a yellow alert is used for weather that is hazardous and could cause moderate or short-term disruptions to travel and daily activities.
By 11:00 AM, the heavy fog had thinned out into a light haze, and visibility improved to about 10 kilometres. Officials lifted the formal weather alerts at that time as driving conditions became safer for those out on the roads during the late morning.
Drivers should prepare for more foggy weather starting around midnight tonight. New fog patches are expected to form late Sunday and may stay in place until the Monday morning commute on February 16, 2026, before clearing up again.
