A Sarnia man faces multiple charges after police found him unresponsive behind the wheel of his truck on March 26, 2026. The Sarnia Police Service arrested the 33-year-old resident of Vimy Crescent following a 911 call from a member of the public who reported seeing the vehicle driving erratically.
Officers responded to the intersection of Tashmoo Avenue and Huron Boulevard at 4:18 p.m. to find the man slumped over the steering wheel of a locked white pickup truck. The Sarnia Fire Department assisted at the scene by breaking a rear window to provide access to the driver. Investigators later determined that the man was already subject to two separate driving suspensions, including a criminal prohibition related to a previous impaired driving conviction.
The driver now faces charges including impaired operation, operation while prohibited, failing to comply with probation, driving under suspension, and drive motor vehicle no license. His vehicle has been impounded for 45 days, and police noted that additional charges may be laid pending the results of medical testing. This incident follows a recent trend in the community, with local police reporting 19 impaired drivers arrested in 2026 as of mid-February, marking an increase of 10 arrests over the same period last year.
This arrest comes shortly after National Impaired Driving Prevention Week, which took place from March 15 to March 21, 2026. During this time, organizations like MADD Canada and local law enforcement reminded the public to call 911 immediately if they spot suspicious driving behaviour. New rules introduced by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation on January 1, 2026, have also established tougher penalties for offenders, including longer roadside suspensions and lifetime licence bans for those convicted of impaired driving causing death.
