Sarnia has released its January 2026 calendar, offering local athletes with intellectual disabilities additional opportunities to train and compete in Sarnia, Ontario. The January calendar provides a roadmap for the winter season and highlights core sports that help participants stay healthy and connected to their neighbours. Community organizers say the programs are vital for providing consistent athletic opportunities and fostering inclusion throughout the city.
The January calendar lists weekly sessions for floor hockey, bowling and basketball that take place during January as part of the chapter’s October–April winter season. The Sarnia Hot Shots practise floor hockey at New Life Assembly Church, the Sarnia Pin Pals meet at Hi-Way Bowl for 10‑pin bowling, and basketball training for the Sarnia Heat runs at High Park P.S., giving athletes a variety of ways to stay active during the colder months.
These local programs help prepare athletes for larger competitions, such as the 2026 National Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta, later that year. Training during the winter also helps local players get ready for the 2027 Provincial Winter Games in North Bay. Organizers emphasize that these activities are about more than winning: they build confidence and a sense of belonging for everyone involved.
Families and athletes can sign up through the Special Olympics Membership Portal. The chapter is also seeking volunteers — including assistant coaches and facility helpers — to support weekly sessions; local organizers recommend checking the Sarnia volunteer page for current needs and openings. For local inquiries, the chapter’s contact directory lists Community Coordinator Tana Manchester and other Volunteer Community Council members who can provide additional information.
