On Saturday, January 24, 2026, the Sarnia Sting will present the “Battle of the Badges,” a pre-game exhibition hockey match between Sarnia Fire Rescue Services and the Sarnia Police Service at Progressive Auto Sales Arena, 1455 London Road, before the Sting face the Peterborough Petes later that evening.

The 4 p.m. exhibition is intended to bring the community together, honour local first responders and support area charities. Access to the pre-game matchup is typically included with a ticket to the Sting’s 7:05 p.m. game.

The matchup has become a local tradition; historically the rivalry has been close — at one reported milestone the series was tied 4-4. Fans can meet off-duty firefighters and officers in a relaxed setting and enjoy two fast-paced games in one afternoon. Similar theme nights have helped the Sting draw large crowds to the arena (capacity ~5,200).

Organizers say the event offers more than bragging rights. It provides a platform for public safety messaging, recruitment drives and demonstrations of the teams’ fitness and teamwork. According to the Sarnia Sting’s promotions page, past Sting charity and first-responder themed events have benefited organizations such as the Huron House Boys Home and Special Olympics; this year’s partners have not yet been announced.

Supporters are encouraged to arrive early and stay for the main event as the Sting take on the Petes. The dual matchups promise a unique chance to cheer on hometown heroes in and out of uniform.
