On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Sarnia residents can expect mixed precipitation overnight to give way to scattered flurries and temperatures hovering around freezing during the 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM morning commute, raising the risk of icy roads and reduced visibility.

Environment Canada’s Sarnia forecast and The Weather Network alerts issued a Special Weather Statement Tuesday evening and (per the Environment Canada alert) were updated at 4:01 AM Wednesday. A cold front moving across Lake Huron is expected to turn residual moisture from rain into black ice on high-traffic routes, especially on Highway 402 and near the Blue Water Bridge approach. Users have reported intermittent connectivity on the Sarnia-specific Environment Canada page; commuters are advised to check the Chris Hadfield Airport automated station (YZR) or Sarnia-Lambton Alerts for real-time readings if the local page is unavailable.

City of Sarnia Public Works crews are on standby for salt application, though recent rain may wash away pre-treatment. The Sarnia Police Service has cautioned that “visibility may be suddenly reduced” and urges drivers to slow down. Sarnia Transit reports no service cancellations as of 7:30 AM but anticipates delays on the Northgate and Murphy Road routes due to cautious driving on slick streets.

Commuters should allow extra travel time; caregivers may want to allow additional time for school drop-offs. Shoreline walkers should watch for spray freezing on Lake Huron walkways as winds shift.
