The Sarnia Police Service arrested two people on January 24, 2026, after stopping a vehicle that was positively identified as stolen. Officers performed the stop in Sarnia, Ontario, as part of an ongoing effort to reduce property crime and vehicle thefts in local neighbourhoods.

Police identified the car as stolen before pulling it over and took the two individuals into custody without incident. The vehicle was recovered by officers; the arrest follows increased SPS patrols aimed at detecting stolen license plates and vehicles.

The arrest is part of a broader Sarnia Police Service strategy to address a rise in thefts that began in late 2025. According to the Sarnia Police Service media release, police have been using extra patrols and dedicated teams to help lower crime rates across the city.

The two individuals are being held in custody pending a Justice of the Peace hearing to determine bail. The Sarnia Police Service said additional details about charges will be released after the suspects have appeared before a judge.
