The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds face a must-win situation at home this week as they look to keep their playoff run alive against the Kitchener Rangers. After dropping the first three games of their best-of-seven series, the Greyhounds are on the brink of elimination in this Ontario Hockey League Western Conference semi-final.
The series moved to Sault Ste. Marie for Game 3 on April 14, 2026, at GFL Memorial Gardens. The Greyhounds have struggled to overcome a deep and undefeated Kitchener squad that previously swept the Saginaw Spirit in the first round. In the current series, the Greyhounds fell 3-1 in Game 1 on April 10, 2026, followed by an 8-5 loss in Game 2 on April 12, 2026. Kitchener subsequently won Game 3 by a 4-3 score.
The team has faced challenges with scoring depth and roster availability throughout the series. In Game 3, the Greyhounds were without centre Chris Brown due to an upper-body injury and defenceman Brodie McConnell-Barker, who was sidelined by illness. These absences limited the team to dressing only two 2006-born skaters for the contest.
Despite these setbacks, forward Marco Mignosa continues to lead the Greyhounds in playoff production. Mignosa has recorded 14 points, including six goals and eight assists, through seven postseason games, ranking him fourth overall in league playoff scoring.
The Greyhounds, who advanced to this round after defeating the London Knights in five games, will host Game 4 on Thursday, April 16, 2026. The puck is set to drop at 7:07 p.m. at GFL Memorial Gardens.
