Sault Ste. Marie Helping Hands is calling on local residents to submit creative work for a new community art exhibition titled “The Healing Power of Art.” The exhibition is positioned as a mental-health–oriented initiative that invites local artists to submit works exploring the relationship between creativity and personal wellbeing; entry forms are due by January 16, 2026.

Helping Hands, a registered charity that operates a thrift-style depot at 346 Wellington Street West in Sault Ste. Marie, has spent years providing free or low-cost clothing and household items to people in the community. The art exhibition represents a notable expansion of the organization’s programming into arts-based approaches to community wellness.

Organizers say the show will invite local artists and community members to submit work that explores themes such as coping, resilience and personal wellbeing. The exhibition is intended to foster conversations about wellness and creativity in the community; the exact exhibition venue and public-programming locations have not yet been confirmed by Helping Hands.

Later in the spring, a fundraiser called “Helping Hearts for Helping Hands” will be held on March 27, 2025 to raise money for the organization. The event is being organized by Sault College Social Service Worker students (the SSW 2025 graduating class) and will take place at Grand Gardens Downtown; tickets are available via Eventbrite. These activities are part of broader efforts to support neighbours facing difficult circumstances — including those dealing with housing and health challenges in the city — by combining material assistance with programming that addresses emotional and community wellbeing.
