The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is investigating a shooting that took place in the downtown area early on the morning of March 30, 2026. Around 2:45 a.m., 911 communicators received a report that a victim had arrived at hospital suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. While the exact time and location of the shooting remain unconfirmed, officers have secured the suspected scene in the 100 block of Dennis Street.
During the initial response, police cordoned off several nearby areas, including the parking lots for the GFL Memorial Gardens and the Elks Lodge. Investigators also deployed a canine unit to search the perimeter, and Dennis Street was temporarily closed to traffic.
While the investigation is ongoing, authorities believe this was an isolated incident. Detectives with Investigation Services have been assigned to the case to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
