Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario – The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is asking anyone who witnessed or recorded a collision that injured a pedestrian on May 14, 2026 to come forward. Police say the crash happened at about 10:15 a.m. when a dark-coloured Jeep leaving an eatery in the 300 block of Great Northern Road struck a northbound pedestrian. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries and the driver did not remain at the scene.
Investigators are asking residents to check dashcam footage, vehicle cameras and any nearby business surveillance for video that could identify the driver. Police specifically want footage from the time around 10:15 a.m. on May 14 that shows the vehicle leaving the parking lot or travelling on Great Northern Road.
The public appeal was issued about a week after the collision, with the police release reaching local outlets on May 21 and May 22, 2026. Police say the delay reflects initial investigative steps to try to identify the vehicle and driver before broadening the request for help from the community.
Anyone who saw the crash or who has dashcam or surveillance video is asked to contact Traffic Services. Call Constable Ben Williams at 705-949-6300, ext. 382 with any information or footage that could assist the investigation.
