Residents in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, will have a rare chance to see how their community’s waste is managed during an open house at the local wastewater treatment plant on March 20, 2026. PUC Services Inc. is hosting the event to give the public a look at the facility that cleans water before it is safely returned to the environment.
The open house will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 2221 Queen St. E., with guided tours departing every 30 minutes. The event is being held in celebration of World Water Day to help people understand the infrastructure that protects local waterways.
The facility is responsible for processing the city’s sewage using complex systems that must follow strict safety and health regulations. Because these areas are normally restricted to the public, the tours offer a unique opportunity to see the equipment and processes that keep the community running every day.
The utility provider is owned by the City of Sault Ste. Marie and manages essential services including electricity, drinking water, and wastewater. This community event is designed to increase transparency regarding how local sanitation and environmental systems are managed.
