A 14-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, is facing weapons charges after police say they pointed an imitation firearm at an adult in a residential parking lot on July 28, 2026.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service charged the youth on July 29 with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Officers arrested the teen around 10:15 p.m. on July 29, after the incident was reported to police earlier that day. Police say the incident in the 200 block of Northern Avenue East had occurred approximately 12 hours before the 911 call.
Police allege the accused and the victim know each other. The youth was later released on an undertaking and has a court date set for September 9, 2026.
Because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the young person’s identity cannot be made public.
This charge comes during a month when Sault Ste. Marie police have handled several youth-related violent incidents. Earlier in July, three teens were charged with assault following a boardwalk altercation on St. Mary’s River Drive.
