Residents in Selkirk, Manitoba, can attend a free community screening of the documentary “The Shot: Sean Hartman’s Story” at The MATAO Event Centre on March 19, 2026. The event will begin at 7:00 PM and is part of a wider tour of the film across Canada.
The feature-length film follows the story of Dan Hartman, a father looking for answers and accountability after the sudden death of his 17-year-old son, Sean Hartman. Sean was a young hockey player, and the documentary chronicles his father’s personal journey following the loss.
The evening will include a meet and greet session after the film, giving local residents a chance to talk directly with the filmmakers about the project and the story it tells.
The screening is being held at a historic local landmark. Records from the Manitoba Historical Society show the venue was formerly the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, which was dedicated in 1932 and closed by 2022 before being renovated into its current use as an event space.
Organizers have noted that seating for the screening is limited. Because the event is expected to draw interest from the community, residents are encouraged to make reservations in advance to secure their spots.
