Drivers in Selkirk, Manitoba, are facing higher costs at the pump after gas prices jumped from $1.189 to $1.499 per litre in early March 2026. The increase happened in about one week, making it 26 percent more expensive for local residents to fill up their vehicles.

The higher price was recorded at the Selkirk Co-op gas bar and has remained at that level through March 11, 2026. This sudden change is putting extra pressure on household budgets for families who rely on their cars for work, school, and daily errands.

The price spike is linked to a U.S. invasion of Iran that has caused crude oil prices to hit nearly $120 USD per barrel. According to GasBuddy, this international conflict is causing fuel costs to rise quickly across all of North America.

Patrick De Haan, the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, confirmed that drivers across the Canadian Prairies are feeling the impact of the market shock. Analysts expect that fuel prices will stay high as the situation in the Middle East continues to affect global energy supplies.
