The Gaynor Family Regional Library in Selkirk, Manitoba, will start a $2.5 million expansion at the end of March 2026 to create more room for local children and students. The library board awarded the construction contract to Parkwest Projects Ltd., which is the same company that built the current facility.
The project, known as The Story Continues, will add a new children’s entrance named the Rotary Hideaway and more seating for young adults. Residents will also see new shelving based on the Seven Sacred Animals, including a bear-shaped shelf named Viktor.
This work is funded by local municipalities and a community fundraising drive that collected $289,049 by December 01, 2025. These donations were matched by Jim and Betty Anne Gaynor, who provided a $300,000 grant to help reach the project goal.
Library staff expect the new spaces to be ready for the public by the fall of 2026. While the building will stay open during the work, children’s programs like BabyTime and StoryTime will be paused starting in April 2026 to make room for construction crews.
