The annual KidFish ice fishing derby returns to Selkirk, Manitoba, on Sunday, February 15, 2026, raising money for children’s health programs and cancer research. This family-friendly event will use the Selkirk Recreation Complex (180 Easton Drive, Selkirk, MB) as the central hub and alternate venue for the day’s activities.

The derby is organized by KidFish (Kids Fishing For A Cure) and supports the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba and the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. Since the fundraiser began in 2015, it has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support pediatric care and cancer research across the province.

Participants can expect registration fees in the $30–$40 range, and the competition offers a $5,000 top prize for the biggest catch. To encourage youth participation, the first 600 children who arrive at the event typically receive a free rod-and-reel kit.

Because ice conditions on the Red River can be unpredictable, organizers are planning to use the Selkirk Recreation Complex (180 Easton Drive) as the headquarters and safety pivot if needed. The competition generally operates on a catch, measure, and release basis to help protect the local fish population.

The event takes place during Manitoba’s Winter Free Fishing Weekend, when anglers are not required to hold a provincial fishing licence; participants must still follow the provincial rules and limits set out in the Manitoba Anglers’ Guide.
