The Gaynor Family Regional Library in Selkirk, Manitoba, is only $17,546 away from reaching a $300,000 matching goal that will match community donations dollar-for-dollar. This final push will trigger a matching gift from local philanthropists Jim and Betty Anne Gaynor to help pay for special features in a planned building expansion.
As of December 1, 2025, the library had raised $282,454 toward the project. The Gaynor family, who previously donated $1.5 million to help build the facility in 2014, has agreed to match community donations 1:1 up to the $300,000 limit.
While the main expansion work is set for 2026, the matching funds are specifically designated for “fun extras” that are not covered by the regular budget. These additions include high-end features and equipment intended to make the library a better gathering space for residents of Selkirk, St. Andrews, St. Clements, and Dunnottar.
Ken Kuryliw, Director of Library Services, says the goal is to keep the building environmentally responsible while expanding its role as a community square. The current facility already features a café and naturalized grounds, and the new project will build on those community-focused services.
People can make donations toward the final $17,546 at the library circulation desk or online. Contributions are also being accepted through CanadaHelps or the Selkirk & District Community Foundation.
