The Lord Selkirk School Division will hold a virtual public forum on February 25, 2026, to present its draft budget for the upcoming school year to families in Selkirk, Manitoba. Starting at 6:00 p.m., the online meeting allows parents and local taxpayers to see proposed changes to school funding, staffing, and transportation services.

The division currently operates 50 buses that travel more than one million kilometres each year to transport nearly 3,000 students. According to the transportation department, the budget comes as the school board continues to address an urgent need for more bus drivers to keep these daily routes running.

Superintendent Jerret Long and Board Chair Lena Kublick will lead the session, which covers funding for local schools including Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School. Community members can ask questions about how the 2026-2027 spending plan might affect classroom resources and student programs before the budget is finished.

The forum follows a recent period where the division flew its flags at half-mast to recognize a tragic school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia earlier this month. This focus on the school community comes as officials look to balance local needs with broader economic pressures and provincial funding levels.
