The Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority honoured local surgeon Dr. Anthony Anozie with the 2026 Physician Emeritus Award during a dinner held on April 14, 2026, at the Selkirk Golf and Country Club.
The award recognizes physicians who have either retired or significantly reduced their practice while providing exemplary service to their communities. To be eligible, candidates must be nominated by colleagues or community members.
Dr. Anozie, who has over 35 years of experience as a general surgeon, has served the Selkirk and Interlake region since 1997. Throughout his career, he has worked as an itinerant surgeon, travelling to provide care in northern communities as well. His work currently continues at the Easton Place Clinic, a facility that received the best new business award from Selkirk Biz in 2023.
Dr. Peter Cho, the surgical co-lead for the health authority, nominated Dr. Anozie for his dedication to patient care, education, and his role in training other surgeons. Dr. Scott Gregoire, the regional lead of medical services and chief medical officer, also expressed appreciation for Dr. Anozie’s long-standing contributions to local healthcare.
This recognition highlights the importance of medical expertise within the region, where the Selkirk Regional Health Centre serves over 2,500 inpatients and more than 26,550 emergency department patients each year.
