About $70–72 million was invested in a new nursing home in Shediac, New Brunswick, called Villa Providence, which will begin moving residents in mid-January 2026. The facility was officially inaugurated on December 1, 2025, and replaces the old Villa Providence building that has served the town since 1970.
About 160 residents currently living at the old site will be transferred to the new location at 261 Breaux Bridge Street on January 13 and 14, 2026. Managed by the Comfort Life Network (Réseau de vie Confort), the building is designed to feel more like a home than an institution by grouping residents into seven small households.
The new centre has capacity for 190 beds, a net increase from the old facility, and includes a specialized psychogeriatric unit to support dementia and related care needs. The project is part of a larger New Brunswick plan to add more long-term care beds for the province’s aging population over the next several years.
Families who want to apply for a placement must contact the New Brunswick Department of Social Development for a clinical assessment (call 1-833-733-7835) rather than applying directly to the home. The organization is also recruiting staff to support the expanded bed count, including Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Resident Attendants.
