Women in Shediac, New Brunswick, are scheduled to take part in a two-day self-defence workshop on Feb. 14 and Feb. 15, 2026, aimed at teaching practical safety skills and building confidence. According to the event briefing, both sessions run from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. local time at Ocean Capital Recreation (OCR).
Organizers say the workshop will adopt a Galentine’s theme — a celebration of female friendship and empowerment — as a community-focused alternative to typical Valentine’s Day activities. Experience Shediac has previously promoted Galentine’s events in the town; local promoters describe the 2026 classes as an opportunity for women to prioritize safety while socializing with friends.
The two-day format is intended as an accessible, condensed version of longer self-defence courses, combining practical physical techniques with situational awareness and confidence-building. Organizers describe the program as ’empowerment-based,’ focusing on participants’ capacity to recognize and respond to risky situations.
While similar programs — such as Wen-Do Women’s Self Defence — are commonly offered in larger centres, local organizers say this workshop brings specialized training to the Shediac area so residents do not have to travel to Moncton or other cities for hands-on instruction.
Instructors will guide participants through easy-to-learn physical responses and situational-awareness exercises designed to increase self-reliance in a supportive environment.
