An anonymous donor has pledged to match up to $100,000 in donations for the World’s Longest Hockey Game in Sherwood Park, Alberta. As of February 12, 2026, every dollar given to the fundraiser will be doubled to help support provincial cancer care. The event continues at Saiker’s Acres in Strathcona County through February 16, 2026.

A group of 40 players is currently on the ice attempting to play for approximately 262 consecutive hours to set a new Guinness World Record. According to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, the money raised is used to buy advanced medical equipment and expand specialized treatments at the Cross Cancer Institute. These treatments include immunotherapy, which helps the body’s immune system fight the disease, and a procedure called CAR T-cell therapy.

The fundraiser was started by Dr. Brent Saik in 2003 and has raised more than $8 million for cancer research over the last two decades. The inaugural game lasted 80 hours, but the event has grown significantly, with the current group of players entering their final three days of the 11-day marathon. As of February 11, 2026, the current game had already raised more than $626,000 toward its multi-million dollar goal.

Organizers say the new matching gift provides a limited time for residents to make their contributions go twice as far before the final whistle. The funds will specifically help pay for new immunotherapy equipment and improve access to specialized care for patients in the province. This year marks the eighth time the senior version of the marathon has been held to support cancer research in Alberta.
