Environment Canada issued a forecast on February 27, 2026, for Sherwood Park, Alberta, warning of a sharp temperature drop and light snow starting today. Residents should prepare for daytime highs near -13°C and wind chill values reaching -22°C, with cold conditions that are expected to last through early March.
According to Environment Canada, the overnight low is expected to hit -18°C. Periods of light snow will begin on Friday morning and likely end by late evening, though there is a 30 to 40 per cent chance of flurries continuing for the next several days.
To help people stay safe during the freeze, Strathcona County transit buses are operating as “Safe Buses.” This program allows anyone who is cold to board a bus for warmth without needing to pay a fare.
Local rules require homeowners in Sherwood Park to clear snow from the sidewalks next to their property within 48 hours of it falling. The county also follows a plan to clear major collector roads within six days once snow reaches 15 centimetres.
The bitter cold is much lower than the usual late-winter high of -1°C. Residents are encouraged to dress in layers and check on their neighbours until temperatures begin to rise again after March 5, 2026.
