Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Sherwood Park, Alberta, as a major winter storm is expected to bring between 15 and 25 centimetres of snow through Tuesday, February 17, 2026. The storm is forecast to impact both the morning and evening commutes with heavy accumulation and blowing snow.
According to Environment Canada, some local areas could see as much as 30 centimetres of snow. Northeast winds are expected to gust up to 50 kilometres per hour, while wind chill values near minus 29 will increase the risk of frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 to 30 minutes.
Municipal crews with Strathcona County follow specific rules for clearing streets during these events. Snow routes on collector roads are cleared once 15 centimetres of snow has fallen, and residential streets are typically addressed when there is seven centimetres of compacted snow on the ground.
Families are also advised to check for updates regarding school transportation. Elk Island Public Schools may suspend or delay bus services if road conditions become too dangerous for travel, even if temperatures do not reach the automatic cancellation limit of minus 40.
