Strathcona County is looking to hire new full-time firefighter-paramedics in Sherwood Park, Alberta, with applications accepted until March 31, 2026. This hiring effort will add staff to Strathcona County Emergency Services, where workers alternate between fighting fires and providing medical care in ambulances.
To be considered for the positions, applicants must already be registered as either an Advanced Care Paramedic or a Primary Care Paramedic at the time they apply. The hiring process includes seven different steps, such as a medical knowledge exam, a panel interview, and a physical fitness test.
Candidates are required to pass a fitness test through the University of Alberta, which costs $399 plus tax. While applicants must pay for this test themselves during the application process, the county will refund the cost to those who are successfully hired.
Those chosen for the roles will begin a 14-week training program in August 2026. This recruitment is part of a plan to ensure the community has enough emergency responders to handle growth in the local area and maintain safety standards.
