Strathcona County will begin its annual residential street sweeping program in Sherwood Park on April 20, 2026, to clear away sand, dirt, and rock chips left behind from winter maintenance. This yearly initiative is essential for ensuring safer travel conditions for all motorists and cyclists across the region.
Crews will work throughout the day in residential areas, while arterial roads and parking lots will be addressed during overnight shifts. The entire operation is expected to take four to five weeks to complete for Sherwood Park and the community of Ardrossan, with work in rural areas continuing through the end of June.
To ensure streets are cleaned as thoroughly as possible, the Strathcona County Transportation Engineering and Operations Department asks that residents move their vehicles off the road when they see posted signage in their neighbourhood. These signs are placed at area entrances at least 24 hours before crews arrive. While vehicles will not be ticketed or towed for remaining on the street, Ryan Wilson, manager of transportation operations, noted that clearing the roadway is necessary for the best results.
Residents can follow the progress of the cleanup crews by viewing the CountyWorks online map. This tool provides real-time updates on which areas have been completed throughout the season.
