More than 1,100 Grade 1 and homeschool students will gather in Sherwood Park on Friday, May 8, 2026, for the annual Arbor Day celebration. Hosted by Strathcona County, the event provides local children with hands-on outdoor learning opportunities focused on how trees grow and the importance of caring for the environment.
The day of activities is set to take place at Broadmoor Lake Park, with additional programming hosted nearby at Peace Park. Approximately 160 staff and community volunteers are donating their time to help facilitate the day, which covers topics including environmental awareness, outdoor safety, and community care.
As part of the program, students will receive a tree seedling to plant at home, with support provided by the Government of Alberta. This initiative is part of a larger provincial effort that distributes thousands of seedlings to Grade 1 students each year to encourage continued learning about nature.
The event is proudly supported by Enbridge. Families and educators can find more information regarding the celebration on the official Strathcona County website.
