Residents in Sidney, British Columbia, should prepare for a return to colder conditions as an unseasonably mild start to the month is expected to end by mid‑February 2026. The Weather Network says there is about a 70% chance the large‑scale pattern will shift between Feb. 14 and Feb. 16, with a winter‑type profile expected to be established by Feb. 15.

Environment and Climate Change Canada and The Weather Network forecast daytime highs could fall from roughly 9°C to around 2°C or lower, bringing overnight frosts and colder winds that would end the stretch of spring‑like weather that has encouraged early budding in some local plants.

The Town of Sidney’s public works department says it typically triggers winter response protocols — including applying salt and brine on main routes such as Beacon Avenue — when temperatures are forecast to reach about −2°C. Crews are monitoring the forecast to decide when to switch from spring maintenance back to ice‑prevention work.

Travellers using BC Ferries at Swartz Bay may also face disruptions if the incoming cold air produces strong winds; large gusts can lead to cancellations on the Swartz Bay–Tsawwassen (Sidney–Tsawwassen) route.

Local gardeners are being warned to protect sensitive plants from the upcoming freeze, since late‑season cold snaps are a recurring feature on Vancouver Island in February. Forecasters are watching closely for any Pacific moisture that could turn the cold spell into a snow event later in the month.
