Residents and boaters in Sidney, British Columbia, should prepare for reduced visibility on the water as fog patches are expected to form on Saturday evening, February 14, 2026. Environment Canada issued a marine forecast for the Haro Strait on Friday morning, warning that while rain showers will end by Saturday morning, thick fog will take their place later that night.

Wind speeds in the area are expected to be light on Saturday afternoon before turning north at 15 knots in the evening. This change in weather comes while the seasonal strong wind warning program for the region remains inactive for the winter months.

Low visibility could cause delays for BC Ferries routes near the Swartz Bay terminal and make it difficult for smaller boats to navigate safely. Under federal Collision Regulations, all boaters are required to use their navigation lights and sound signals, such as horns, when they cannot see clearly on the water.

Local boaters are encouraged to avoid any travel that is not necessary on Saturday night to prevent accidents in the busy water channels. Those who must travel should check for safety updates and notices through the Navigation Safety Regulations and official Canadian Coast Guard channels before heading out.
