Starting at midnight on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Norfolk County crews will begin a large-scale project to remove snow banks from the downtown core and parking lots in Simcoe, Ontario. This work is necessary to clear sightlines and make more room for parking after several January storms left heavy piles along the roads.
Unlike regular plowing where snow is pushed to the side, this operation uses loaders and dump trucks to physically haul the snow away. This work will focus on the downtown area, specifically along the Colborne, Norfolk and Robinson street corridors, as well as all municipal parking lots.
Residents and business owners must move their vehicles, as strict no-parking rules will be enforced to allow the heavy machinery to pass. According to the Norfolk County Parking By-law (2011-189), any vehicles left in the way may be ticketed or towed.
The Norfolk County Winter Weather Dashboard notes that this plan could change if more snow falls before the start date. If a new storm hits, crews will focus on plowing main roads first, which could delay the removal of the larger piles. Residents should also watch the County’s official notification channels (including the Voyent Alert! system) for last-minute changes.
Property owners are also reminded to have their sidewalks cleared by noon after any snowfall to avoid potential costs or fines under the Snow and Ice Removal by-law. For the latest updates on road closures or changes to the schedule, residents can check local reporting.
