Residents in Simcoe, Ontario, can expect slightly better conditions after Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) lifted an extreme cold warning for the area on the afternoon of February 3, 2026. The alert was cancelled for the region, including Delhi and Norfolk County, after wind chill values rose above the hazardous −30°C threshold that triggered the warning.
Even though the official warning has ended, the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit is reminding residents to stay cautious because temperatures remain very low. Temperatures are expected to fall to about −18°C overnight, with light snow flurries lingering through the afternoon.
Norfolk County says its winter safety protocols remain in place to protect public safety and keep roads clear. Public-health officials also warn that vulnerable people remain at risk of frostbite and hypothermia while temperatures are this low. Drivers should be cautious on the roads: road salt becomes much less effective below about −10°C, so crews may rely on additives or sand during extremely cold conditions.
Local community organizations and shelters are continuing to provide warming spaces for people who need them. While the deep freeze is beginning to ease, officials advise dressing in layers, limiting time spent outdoors, and checking on friends or neighbours who may be at higher risk until temperatures recover.
