Slave Lake RCMP responded to 390 calls for service in June 2026, and the detachment is sharing summer safety tips to help residents stay safe during the busy season. The figures were released by the town on July 7.
The most common calls included 57 disturbance complaints, 22 wellbeing checks, and 11 assaults. Police also handled 10 thefts, 9 break-and-enters, and 32 calls related to 911 Act (static lines, 911 hang-ups).
Along with the June numbers, the release included summer safety reminders in five areas: sun and heat safety, bike and pedestrian safety, water safety, personal and community awareness, and online and digital safety. These tips are aimed at families and young people now that school is out.
Slave Lake has a younger population than much of Alberta, with an average age of 34.6 years compared to the provincial average of 39. This makes youth-focused safety messaging especially important for the community of about 7,334 people.
Across Alberta, the RCMP is also warning about summer property crime. There were 3,132 break-and-enters reported province-wide in 2025, including 283 in June alone. In Slave Lake, the local crime reduction unit has shifted its focus to managing repeat offenders, an approach that has produced positive results.
