Slave Lake, Alberta, is in for a week of changing weather, starting with a risk of thunderstorms before sunshine takes over mid-week. Residents can expect a wet start to the week, but plenty of sun Wednesday through Friday will offer ideal conditions for outdoor plans, before rain returns heading into the weekend.
The Environment Canada forecast for Monday, June 22, calls for a mix of sun and cloud with a 60 percent chance of showers and a risk of a thunderstorm. The high will reach 20°C, with a UV index of 6. Monday night will see a continued chance of showers and thunderstorms, with fog patches developing and a low of 7°C.
The unsettled weather clears out quickly, however. Tuesday through Friday will bring sunny skies, with temperatures climbing to 23°C on Tuesday and Wednesday, and reaching a high of 24°C on Thursday. That’s slightly above the normal high of 20°C for late June in Slave Lake. The sunny stretch offers a good window for outdoor activities, but anyone heading out on Monday should take precautions. According to Alberta’s thunderstorm safety guidance, during a storm residents should move to a safe place away from windows and doors, and avoid using electrical equipment. Lightning kills approximately 10 Canadians each year and injures many more.
