Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a weather alert at 4:41 a.m. AST on January 26, 2026, for a storm expected to bring 20 to 30 centimetres of snow to Southampton, New Brunswick. High wind gusts of up to 50 kilometres per hour are forecast to create blowing snow, making travel difficult throughout the day.

The ECCC alert is classified as ‘Yellow,’ meaning hazardous weather is expected and residents should be aware of potential disruptions. This system is part of the federal colour-coded weather alert framework used to explain the severity of incoming storms to the public (see ECCC colour-coded alerts page).

Blowing snow is expected to reduce visibility to near-zero in open areas, particularly for those driving on Route 105 or the Trans-Canada Highway. Local residents can find real-time updates on road conditions and plowing through NB 511 Travel Information (https://511.gnb.ca/).

The heavy snowfall is likely to trigger school closures within the Anglophone West School District; the district typically makes closure decisions early in the morning based on road reports. While the winds are not expected to cause widespread structural damage, the weight of the snow could lead to some localized power outages in the heavily wooded areas around the community.
