Residents in Spruce Grove–Stony Plain are being asked to sign a recall petition that could remove their Member of the Legislative Assembly, Searle Turton, from office. Elections Alberta published the Notice of Recall Petition in mid-November 2025 and issued the petition on Nov. 25, 2025; signature collection began Nov. 26, 2025 and runs for 90 days, ending Feb. 23, 2026.

To force a by‑election, the petition must produce 15,189 valid signatures — equal to 60% of the total number of votes cast in Spruce Grove–Stony Plain in the 2023 provincial election (25,315 votes). Signatures must be original, handwritten entries on Elections Alberta’s official recall signature sheets; only registered canvassers may collect and witness signatures, and canvassers must swear affidavits as required by the Recall Act.

Organizers have posted signing events and information (campaign materials indicate local signing events and stations), and canvassers typically set up at community halls and other public locations. If the petition reaches the required number of valid signatures and Elections Alberta’s verification confirms the total, the MLA’s seat would be declared vacant and a by‑election would be called. To date, no MLA recall petition in Alberta has successfully met the required statutory threshold.

Searle Turton was re-elected in 2023 and currently serves as a cabinet minister (Minister of Children and Family Services). Turton has said he remains focused on his duties to the province and the people of Spruce Grove–Stony Plain; requests for a direct, current statement should be sent to his office for attribution.
