The Parkland School Division is currently reviewing how the 2026 Provincial Budget will affect local classrooms in Spruce Grove, Alberta. Following the budget release in late February 2026, school leaders are looking at a mix of increased money for daily operations and the loss of specific funds used to fix up school buildings.

The provincial government included a 7 per cent increase in operational funding for school boards across the province, totaling $722 million. This extra money is meant to help with classroom complexity and base funding, which supports the everyday needs of students and teachers.

However, the province also removed the Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal grant. Division officials say losing this money will directly impact their ability to look after and repair school buildings throughout the region.

Board Chair Dr. Lorraine Stewart said the division is glad to see more support for classroom needs but wants more local control over how money is spent. She noted that the division continues to advocate for the freedom to address its own unique challenges.

Families with children in the division may see changes in how resources are used during the 2026-2027 school year as the administration finalizes its plans. Acting Superintendent Mark Francis is the primary contact for those with questions about how these budget changes will affect local schools.
