The City of Spruce Grove, Alberta, began implementing its newly approved 2026–2028 Budget and Fiscal Plan in early February 2026. The three-year plan, approved by City Council on Dec. 8, 2025, focuses on improving everyday services like snow removal and community safety to keep up with the city’s growing population.

Residents will see a 4.68 per cent municipal tax increase to fund these changes, including hiring additional public safety staff and buying heavy equipment for road and snow maintenance. The city’s release notes that a substantial portion of the increase is dedicated to hiring additional RCMP officers.

The most visible change for residents will arrive in fall 2026, when snow and ice removal timelines will be reduced so parking lots and residential roads are cleared more quickly.

The budget also funds additional RCMP officers and Peace Officers, and provides for an additional Fire Prevention Officer, as the city continues to manage growth with a population now over 40,000 people.

Starting in April 2026, the Community Outreach Program — the outreach service that assists vulnerable residents and helps reduce non-criminal calls to police — will become a permanent part of the city’s services.

Public Works will receive new heavy machinery to help meet the faster snow-clearing timelines. The municipality also renamed its planning document from the “Corporate Plan” to the “Budget and Fiscal Plan” to make financial information more accessible to residents.
