Most winter roads serving St. Theresa Point, Manitoba, are now open for heavy transport as of February 22, 2026. These seasonal routes are vital for the community to receive a year’s worth of fuel and heavy freight that would otherwise be too expensive to fly in.
According to Manitoba 511, the road between St. Theresa Point and St. Mary Island is in good condition. This section currently has a weight limit of 39,500 kilograms, allowing for the heaviest classes of transport trucks to deliver essential supplies.
The link from Berens River to St. Theresa Point is also open, though officials report it is in fair condition with some rough sections. This route is a major artery for the region because it connects the community to the end of the province’s permanent year-round road system.
Most major links for the Island Lake region, including the route from Norway House to the St. Theresa Point Junction, have also reached the 39,500-kilogram weight capacity. These roads are monitored and reported by Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure.
Chief Raymond Flett of the St. Theresa Point Anisininew Nation has highlighted the importance of these roads for community safety and affordability. The seasonal window typically lasts only two months, providing the only way to deliver large building materials and fill local fuel tanks before the spring thaw.
