On February 23, 2026, the Manitoba Government announced that a program connecting people to community supports is now available in St. Theresa Point, Manitoba. This initiative, called social prescribing, allows health-care workers to refer patients to non-medical services like peer groups, community lunch programs, and social activities to help improve their well-being.

Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara stated that the program is now active across all five regional health authorities, including the Northern Health Region. Clinicians at the St. Theresa Point Nursing Station can now refer residents to more than 120 resource co-ordinators who manage local information hubs to help people find the help they need.

According to the province, use of the program has grown significantly, with referrals increasing by about 44 per cent over the last year. Dr. Nichelle Desilets, the president of Doctors Manitoba, and Connie Newman from the Manitoba Association of Senior Communities are working together to help health-care providers and senior-serving organizations use the new system.

The Four Arrows Regional Health Authority will also help connect residents to community-led wellness programs. This network aims to reduce isolation and help people manage long-term health conditions by providing practical services and social connections right in their own community.
