The St. Theresa Point Community Wellness Center is launching a new weekly sports program for local youth starting March 20, 2026. This initiative aims to give children in the Oji-Cree First Nation community of St. Theresa Point, Manitoba, a regular place to stay active and meet with friends after their school day ends.

The program will feature sessions for basketball and floor hockey. These drop-in activities are designed to be accessible to all local youth, providing a safe and consistent environment for exercise and socialization.

St. Theresa Point is a fly-in community located about 650 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg. Because the area is remote, the St. Theresa Point First Nation administration focuses on creating structured activities that are easy for residents to reach within their own community.

By using the existing facilities at the wellness center, the program helps fill a need for more extracurricular options for young people. This effort is part of a broader goal to foster health and active living among the youth population.

The Four Arrows Regional Health Authority also provides health and wellness support to the Island Lake region. This new weekly sports program is intended to help local youth build strong social connections through organized physical activity.
