Manitoba RCMP arrested a 16-year-old from St. Theresa Point First Nation on July 1, 2026, after a disturbing online video threatened to livestream an active shooting. The arrest followed a quick investigation involving the Island Lake RCMP and Winnipeg Police Service.
The threat came to light on the evening of June 30, when Winnipeg police alerted their Manitoba RCMP colleagues about the video. Major crime units from both forces worked together and identified a suspect from the remote fly-in community.
RCMP officers from the Island Lake detachment arrested the teen without incident at a home the next day. During a search of the residence, they seized ammunition for several firearms. Police were then led to a neighbouring home, where they found and seized four unsecured firearms.
The RCMP says the threat was generalized and did not name a specific target. The youth has been charged with uttering threats and remains in custody. His name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
St. Theresa Point is located about 500 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg and is only reachable by airplane or seasonal ice roads. The investigation is ongoing, and police say no additional charges are currently being considered related to the firearms.
