Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for St. Thomas, Ontario, warning of significant rainfall through Wednesday, March 11, 2026. The weather agency expects between 20 and 40 mm of rain to fall across the community over the next two days.
Local ground conditions are currently frozen or very wet, which means the soil cannot soak up much water. This increases the chance of sudden flash floods and could lead to large pools of water on local roads and in low-lying spots.
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority have already released flood bulletins for early March. These groups are watching the spring thaw closely as river levels often rise quickly during this time of year.
Residents are encouraged to be careful near rivers and streams and to check for updates from the Kettle Creek Conservation Authority. There is also a risk of thunderstorms, which could cause even more rain to fall in some areas than originally predicted.
