On February 20, 2026, the St. Thomas Police Service reported that a 30-year-old local man is facing 12 new criminal charges following a series of incidents in St. Thomas, Ontario. The man had 21 different interactions with officers in just 10 days after being released from custody earlier this month.
The new charges include assaulting officers, uttering threats, fraud, and theft. These incidents began shortly after the man was released on February 10, 2026, following a previous conviction for theft and mischief that had placed him on two years of probation.
The most recent arrest happened after officers were called to a downtown area for a report of an unwanted person. During that call, police say the man resisted being taken into custody and damaged police property while he was being held.
The man was released again with a future court date. The St. Thomas Police Service noted that these situations highlight the ongoing challenges of managing repeat offenders who may also face complex mental health and social struggles. Police Chief Marc Roskamp has frequently advocated for bail reform in response to similar “catch and release” scenarios involving prolific offenders in the community.
