Environment Canada issued a blowing snow advisory for the Rural Municipality of Stanley, Manitoba, on Friday, February 27, 2026. The alert comes as wind gusts between 60 and 80 kilometres per hour create dangerous travel conditions in the Winkler and Morden areas.

Strong winds are blowing around recent snowfall and causing visibility to drop to near-zero levels in some spots. Because of the poor conditions, officials have closed Highway 14 from Highway 75 to Winkler and Highway 3 from Winkler to the area south of Crystal City.

The weather has also impacted local schools and transportation. While buses are still operating inside the city of Morden, all rural bus routes have been cancelled for the day, and Christ Full Gospel Christian Academy in Plum Coulee is closed.

The combination of falling temperatures and high winds is expected to keep visibility low throughout the day, especially on open highways in the Red River Valley. Residents are being asked to stay off the roads and avoid any travel that is not necessary until the weather clears up later this evening.
